What is self storage?

Self storage is short for “self-service storage”. We provide you with a secure storage room in which to store your belongings.

How much does self storage cost?

The cost of self storage depends on how much storage space you need. We have a wide range of storage rooms available at Hills Self Storage. Our smallest storage room is about the size of a broom cupboard and the largest room is about the size of half a tennis court. What can I store?

You can store pretty much anything but there are a few items that you are NOT allowed to store. The following items are not permitted to be stored in our storage facility:

  1. Food and drink
  2. Compressed gas
  3. Combustible/Flammable materials
  4. Firearms
  5. Chemicals
  6. Any illegal items
  7. Anything that emits fumes or odours

When can I access my storage room?

As a customer of Hills Self Storage you have complimentary access to your storage room 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our self storage reception is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm and on Saturday from 9am to 5pm. We are open by appointment only on Sundays and bank holidays.

What security does Hills Self Storage have?

At Hills Self Storage we take security very seriously. We have installed a wide range of 24 CCTV surveillance cameras which cover both the outside and inside of our self storage buildings. The buildings themselves are also protected by smart PIN based access control systems. This means that only authorised staff and customers can gain access to the building.

How do I pay for my storage?

At Hills Self Storage we want to make paying for your storage rental as simple as possible. That’s why we encourage all of our customers to sign up for our AutoBill service. When you move in we’ll ask you to provide us with the card details that you wish to pay your bill, we will then charge that card on a monthly basis until you move out. We cannot accept cash or cheque payments but we may accept bank transfer (subject to approval).

Is there a minimum rental period?

At Hills Self Storage there is no long term minimum storage commitment. You can store for as long as you want, there’s just a minimum storage charge of 1 week’s storage rental.

How much notice do I have to give to move out?

We require 7 days notice before you move out of your storage room. The best way to give notice is to Check-Out Online. However, if you’d rather, you can also give notice by calling us on 01206 625 045.

What size room do I need?

Choosing the perfect storage room can be quite tricky, especially if you’re a first time storage user! However, you can view all of our storage rooms online or you can give us a call on 01206 625 045 and we’ll help you work out which storage room is best for you.

What is the smallest self storage room available?

The smallest storage room we have available is one of our lockers. These storage lockers offer a cubic metre of storage space and are great for a few boxes and/or bags. For more information on these small storage lockers, please call 01206 625 045.

Can I add or remove items once I’ve moved into my storage room?

Yes, once you’ve take occupancy of your storage room you can come and go as you please. Your storage room is your private space and you can transfer items in and out of your storage space as long as you don’t store anything that’s on our list of prohibited items.

Why do I need insurance cover for my stored items?

We have buildings insurance but you will need insurance cover for your items for much the same reason as you need contents insurance cover when you’re at home. Our insurance cover protects our buildings and your insurance cover will protect the belongings that you can keeping in your storage room.

Does Hills Self Storage have access to my storage room?

Your storage room is your own private storage space which means that you are the sole key-holder. Hills Self Storage do not hold copies of or master keys to the padlocks that our customers use. If you wish to share access to your storage room, we recommend using a combination padlock.

Do I pay weekly or monthly?

Unlike many storage companies, we charge monthly rather than 4-weekly. This means that you will pay for your storage on or around the same date every month. Other storage companies like to charge you 4-weekly which means you’ll get charged 13 times over the period of a year. It also means that your next payment will be on a different date to your last.

Do you have any discounts or special offers?
